Bioshock remastered steam for mac now12/27/2023 ![]() Additionally, the game and its biopunk theme borrow concepts from the survival horror genre, notably the Resident Evil series. The game includes elements of role-playing games, giving the player different approaches in engaging enemies such as by stealth, as well as moral choices of saving or killing characters. The player, as Jack, can defeat foes in several ways by using weapons, utilizing plasmids that give unique powers, and by turning Rapture's defenses against them.īioShock 's concept was developed by Irrational's creative lead, Ken Levine, and incorporates ideas by 20th century dystopian and utopian thinkers such as Ayn Rand, George Orwell, and Aldous Huxley, as well as historical figures such as John D. Jack attempts to escape, fighting ADAM-obsessed enemies and Big Daddies, while engaging with the few sane humans that remain and learning of Rapture's past. The discovery of ADAM, a genetic material which grants superhuman powers, initiated the city's turbulent decline. The game is set in 1960, and follows Jack who discovers the underwater city of Rapture, built by business magnate Andrew Ryan to be an isolated utopia. The first game in the BioShock series, it was released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 platforms in August 2007 a PlayStation 3 port by Irrational, 2K Marin, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes was released in October 2008. I don't know how to get that on mac anymore but it might be worth looking into.BioShock is a 2007 first-person shooter game developed by 2K Boston (later Irrational Games) and 2K Australia, and published by 2K. It's probably best to play this on a MacBook pro since it won't have issues with the framerate but I'd still recommend the regular version for the better graphics (which they had on steam for a while and ran on my 2010 MacBook pro maxed out no problem). Seems like the best version is still vanilla 2007 PC version if you can handle the audio bugs (there's some troubleshooting to fix the audio issues like the sound cutting out and 5.1, though still a bit of a pain), but since they never fixed them in the remastered I guess it doesn't matter. The sound issues are probably not fixed, but since I don't have a 5.1 setup connected via HDMI to my mac, I can't confirm (They never patched that in the PC version, just added a speaker setup selection that doesn't work for HDMI audio - can't get more than 2.1). It feels like it did on PC in which the remaster felt like more of a rehash for cash than anything. ![]() ![]() It runs a bit smoother with less frame drops on my weak 12" mac remastered vs regular but it has shittier textures/lighting/water effects. It looks like the remastered edition has the same issues as the PC remastered version. So to answer my own question: I own the game on Steam because I already own the PC version, so I was able to download the mac version for free.
